Who this helps
For retailers, distributors and operations teams evaluating stock management, multi-location inventory or multi-store coordination.
1. Trace one item through a normal day.
Select a representative item and follow its receipt, issue, sale or adjustment. Check the quantity, location, actor and reason recorded at each step. Compare the system total with a controlled physical count. A useful stock figure has an explainable history; a dashboard total without its movements cannot tell you why the shelf and the record differ.
2. Test the exact location workflow.
Pharos General Inventory and Retail Stock have different scope. Retail Stock supports recorded dispatch and receipt between locations, stocktakes and relevant batch, expiry or serial details. General Inventory focuses on materials and movement records and does not provide the same native transfer or stocktake documents. Ask to see the area that matches your operation.
3. Separate multiple locations from multiple online stores.
A location ledger is not the same as synchronising independent Shopify stores. For a connected-store project, agree product mapping, the authoritative stock source, update directions and exception handling. Get Lightning has a specific three-store implementation story; another setup needs its own scope and acceptance. Do not assume that a subscription instantly connects every sales channel.
4. Review exceptions, costing and ownership.
Test an incomplete transfer, a count difference and the costing method needed by your accounts team. Confirm permissions, export needs, locations, full cost and who corrects exceptions. During a Pharos demo, bring one item and one troublesome handoff. The best fit is the workflow your team can check and run, rather than the longest feature list.
A useful next step
Choose stock software from the movement you need to control. Test location records, physical counts and external-store boundaries before moving the rest of your stock.
